Hi

I'm going wild camping in Wales. With no ameneties around other then what I put in my rucksack, I was wondering what foods would be best to take.

Any info, links or guidance in this area would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Stuart,

I'll be going for 4/5 nights, just me. My first time camping since I was 14.

I'm planning on going to the Brecon Beacons and maybe Scotland/Norway when I'm a bit more experienced.

take some fishing line hooks etc use a tent peg to make a bank line catch your supper from  the numerous stream, rivers and lakes just b careful of any fishing rights /notices a decdent sharp knife for cleaning them is ess. take some wet wipes for cleaning your hands aldis are doing some nice rice meals that you just add water to and boil foods that will keep dried etc they have also got an outdoor cooking set for camping takes the small wax type fuel blocks just enjoy

Hi Stuart,

I'll be going for 4/5 nights, just me. My first time camping since I was 14.

Main issue is that food wont keep fresh, unless you plan on taking a fridge !.

Its also a weight versus calories thing although in 4 or 5 days your unlikley to run low ulsess your doing serious exersize.

For the first couple of days you can use packet bacon (mmm the smell of bacon butties in the morning) sausages etc with mash pasta rice etc.

Porridge (or the instant stuff) or musili is good for breakfast you can make it with instannt milk. I like to make huge pancakes and have them with syrup on.

Beyond that there are plenty of pasta, rice and cous cous meals in supermarkets these days most can be made with just water, but go for the quick cooking ones, quicker cooking means less fuel which is less weight.

Lidls do some very nice & cheap pasta meals, I often enhance them with pepperoni sausage (keeps well and high in calories).

There are ranges of complete dehydrated meals in the camping shops, but whilst some taste OK (and others are yuk) they are very expensive.

Incidently, most of the rivers in the mountains of the Beacons are too small for a realistic prospect of fish, and you will get into trouble if you fish the wider rivers without a permit.

Curry pot noodle for breakfast cannot be beaten.
