Does anyone have an opinion on rechargable lanterns.  I'm thinking of getting one for those rainy evenings when you can't sit outside.  At present we make do with a torch and garden lanterns as nightlights.  Do I get a more expensive Coleman or Nightsearcher or do I get one of the cheapo ones off ebay.  I would like to be able to recharge it in the car if need be.

I don't fancy having a gas lamp hanging from the middle of the tent, don't know if this worry is right or not but I don't like gas that much.

Kate, we have the Nightsearcher ...We tried it for the first time last weekend..It's remote control is great for turning it off when you're tucked up in bed...it came with a cigar lighter charger and a plug for EHU..

Woolies have a one like it for £15.00. in their sale. We also use a 12 volt strip light that hooks dirct to car battery for outside..They give off a great deal more light than the lamp but don't come with a remote control.

We bought the Coleman rechargeable lantern last year (£26) and were very disappointed with the amount of light it gave off. It's also quite heavy, so probably wouldn't be suitable to hang from a tent loop. We've replaced it with the 206 gas lantern, but if you don't like gas, then try the ones suggested by Tom.

Nightsearcher lanterns are brilliant.

What we are looking for are those torches they have in the films, for example Jurassic Park.  These are the ones with a huge beam that lights up infinity, and last for several days without needing a recharge.  Milletts dont stock them - anyone know who does?
