We've not had our EHU long and on our last trip took our daughters lovely "Barbie" lamp for lighting. We now want to purchase some proper lights that are suitable for outdoor use/in a tent. We did see some in Argos, but now the new book is out they are not in there. They had 2 in there. Both strip lights one hanging and one in a stand, I think they were £7 or £8. Anyone know of anything similar or can recommend where I can get hold of something suitable before Sunday.
Wilcos do the fluorscent 'inspection lamps' for £6
Lots of places have the little bedside lamps with the halogen bulb on the telescopic head. They fold up fairly small and give a less harsh light. Our local B&Q has them for £2.50 at the moment.
We got a tent light from Camperlands, Manchester, fully enclosed, has hooks for hanging in middle of tent. It's brilliant, gives high light and lights the whole tent. We use a 60w bulb. Can't remember how much we paid but knowing my hubby it would not have been dear, £10 rings a bell. I would think most good camping shops would have something similar.
We have bought a couple of those 'clip-on' lamp holders from Poundstretcher (£3 with 2m cable) and Poundland (£1 but with only 1 m of cable - not so good). I am nervous about 'hot' bulbs near tent fabric, so bought some 'low energy' bulbs to fit - not quite so bright, but don't get nearly so hot.
You can clip them anywhere around the tent - mostly used them clipped to the hooks that hold the inner up, but once kids were in bed I used to bring it down and clip it to the arm of my chair so that I could read, then moved it into the inner and attached it to a 'pinch' of fabric in the ceiling, so that I could carry on reading!
Also used my new 'toy' this summer - a set of outdoor (i.e. waterproof) Christmas tree lights from IKEA! Not the tiny fairy lights, but 24 smallish 'normal' bulbs. Made the tent stand out somewhat (!!) and it meant that we had to stop laughing at some of the other ridiculous 'kit' that other campers brought with them, but strung around the canopy at the front of the tent it gave a lovely light to sit out under.
You are not alone with the christmas lights.A friend of mine also takes her christmas light and drapes hers over her bed area. There battery powered ones though
