Yesterday I purchased a rather large cool box the Coleman 40L.  It seemed like a good idea at the time as it was reduced to £24.99 and included a flask and a small cool box for carrying 6 cans. However, am now a little worried about the amount of ice blocks I will need to keep this vast cool box cool.

ANyone else got one? How many ice packs do you have in it?

Can't help you with the number of icepacks, but a big coolbox sounds a good idea to me, always find ours too small to fit everything in even for a family picnic.

We borrowed a huge one at the weekend, not sure whether it was quite 40L, but following the advice on here we kept it cool with 2 x 1.5L volvic water bottles, frozen.  Fantastic!  We had 2 days away and the bottles still had huge chunks of ice in them when we came home and the milk, butter and everything was really cold.  I'll be leaving ice-blocks at home from now on.

We have the same cool box got it for £35.00 so you really have got a bargain. We don't tend to use ice packs as we feel they melt too quickly. We use frozen 2 litre bottles of water and bags of ice cubes from the supermarket. Due to the large surface area they tend to stay frozen longer and you can use the water once it melted and the ice cubes always come in handy for your drinks as well.
