hello, I'm new to camping, except for going with my son on cub camps. I would like some advice on which tent brand to buy. there are so many i'm not sure which is a good make or an economy brand.

i'm wanting a family tent with 2 seperate bedrooms and a living area, enough to stand up in. 4+ berth, which is not to difficult to erect.

got any suggestions?

Hi Jaqui

what a can of worms there,      It all depends on what sort of weather you are wanting to endure amongst other theings, you need a tent with whats called a hydro static head of at least 2000 mm. The amount of water it will endure.

Aztec do good value for money tents

depends on what you mean by seperate bedrooms. try looking at the Aztec Terrano a chep tent to start with, the link is for example only http://www.cwtents.co.uk/aztecterreno.htm

I have an aztec that I use regularily, and as a Scout leader have bought 4 for the lads, they are a good quality cheap tent and ours has stood up to some horrific weather, You could look at some of the three roomed ones that way you would have room for storing as well, as with kids you need a good communal area + loads of storage space

Hi and welcome.
Can't recommend a particular tent, unless you're after a large frame tent - I love frame tents.
However when looking, do go for slightly larger than you think you need - it's amazing how much smaller tents are once you've got all you stuff in.   In the camping shops they have a couple of chairs and a small table, not a kids toy in sight.    Do look  for a tent where it is possible to live inside, just incase we get some rain.   Nothing worse than being stuck inside barely able to move without falling over each other, especially with kids - been there done that got a bigger tent.
Also consider the bedroom positioning - are you kids likely to need you at 2am, is so go for a tent which doesn't involve you crawling to the other side of it.   Our Kos 6, has a large bedroom, which is divided by means of a curtain, easy access to the kids.  Even the third bedroom is only next door - OK at the moment we  dont bother with this, but use the area for storage.

Just thinking along the line.... wouldn't it be nice for the kids to have their own tent? It would make them more "responsible" and give you and hubby more privacy. As for the dog? It will probably join the kids and the crisps....cola.....nintendo....

Cheers!

PS: Welcome to the loony bin. Enjoy but vee vill not let yoo go now vee got yoo hooked...

Welcome to the site, the best advice we have had is to buy 2 berth above what you need,so if there are 4 of you buy at least a 6 berth. We have a eurohike 8 berth and after 3 years camping have had no problems with it.

Halfords have a good sale on the gelert tents at the moment.  There is a good one that has 2 x 2 berth beds separated by a living space.  I think it was just under £100.

I've always found that if a tent says 4 berth it means 4 people with no kit at all. Always go larger than you require. We have a 12 berth for the boss, myself and 3 kids under 5 yrs old. If it rains, like it will. It gives the kids some space to play, trust us all, you will need some space.
