It depends really. Fan heaters are good at providing immediate warmth, but you won't want to leave one on overnight. Oil-filled radiators are good for night-time use. Halogen heaters are supposed to be good, but are very bright, so again you might have problems at night.
Only really need it for when we are sat in tent in the evening before going to bed. possibly in the morning when we get up. Got a child 8 yrs old so would prefer fan heater.
I use a coleman black cat and swear by it. Didn't really need to use it until the kids had already gone to bed and it was great for warming the tent up in the morning. Powered by gas cartridge but then if I was using EHU, I'd probably go for a fan heater.
There's no naked flame with a black cat but I do get the kids to give it a wide berth if they are around.
we tried a halogen heater at first but didnt find it very warm so we switched to a regular fan heater and its such a difference heatwise. in about half an hour the tent is toasty warm and we have to switch it off. the other downside of the halogen is it is very bright if you have all the plates going at the one time, not so good for trying to get to sleep at night.

Just come back from wales and it got a bit chilly last night on a very clear moonlit night and there were 6 of us huddled outside sat round my black cat heater worked a treat moved inside with it when we all retired and just kept it on for 15 mins whilst we finished our drinks and our tent was lovelly and warm.
