camping gaz is butane. Officially one has to use Camping gaz regulators, but as it is butane, it should function with a normal butane regulator. However, the connections of bottle to regulator are totally different. Normal butane regulators e.g. have a larger threading than CC, wich has a finer threading, plus CC is 'screw in', while normal butane is 'screw on' with some type of nut, which is screwed 'around' the connection, . Sorry If i use the wrong words, but I am Dutch.
Also normal butane bottles have a tap to close them. This way you close the bottle e.g. during transport. Camping gaz has a ball system. Screwing in the regulator immediately opens the gasbottle by pushing the ball aside. To close the bottle during transport the regulator has to be taken off.
So the point is, did you just buy a CC cooker, in which case you may connect any butane bottle to it with proper regulator. Or did you also buy a Camping gaz bottle, in which case you will be forced to use the Camping Gaz regulator. Which, by the way will last for ages.
The difference between butane and propane:
butane has a higher density, i.e. more calaries for the same quantity. But it stops performing at around 4 degrees centigrade.
propane has a slightly lower density/less calories per same quantity, but performs until around minus 30 degrees, therefore also in autumn, spring and winter. it operates at a higher pressure, this way the cooker in fact it will perform the same as butane as it just gets a bit more propane supplied.
These there there are multipurpose regulators, allowing for both butane and propane, functioning at an intermediate pressure of 30 Mbar. (28 normal for butane, 37 or near that for propane). The nozzle in the cooker may make a diference, but normally can be replaced.

Ruby, having asked a very similar question myself see this thread , got quite a lot of info concerning the gas, and cannister types/regulators. (Thanks again to those that replied)
What I would suggest is that you think about how much room you have when packing, and how much gas you will need to use whilst 'away'. Then you can make an informed decision as to which type of gas bcannister/regulator to buy. Please be aware a butane regulator won't go on all butane cannisters !! (I have friends who turned up this year with a new cannister that they had taken to the shop and swapped their empty one for...only to find that their regulator didn't match the 'new' cannister Fortunatly, the nice man that runs the site, had a spare cannister that they used for the duration)
I actually went to a local camping retailer, and got the cannister, regulator and additional hose at a 'package' price, so look out for that sort of thing, if you don't find a spare at the tip (or similar!)
Hope this helps.
