Mummy bags are snug, but you can't move legs very well, we prefer kingsize square, although our 11year old daughter loves her mummy - its very warm.

Me and OH use these Vango X-Lite 450 Sleeping Bag

Vango x-lite 450

We zip them up together too and they are fine. When we are together, we open the zip at the bottom slightly to let the air flow,  as we both get hot feet. We find these bags are perfect in size, weather initiating anything or not,! I have never felt cold, or overheated. I would always vote for a Mummy bag, the design suits me to a T.

Even my kid's have mummy bags, and my son is like a windmill, yet he has never complained of a restricted space.

Don't forget you can get different lengths aswell.

We had mummy bags originally but OH has quite broad shoulders and he couldn't get them into the bag!  So we ditched those and bought Vango 350 2/3 season and they're brilliant!  Good and long and plenty of room to move around and only about £35 each.  We haven't put them through their paces in the winter yet, but we will be this year.

My OH is of similar proportions and found even a larger mummy bag a bit claustrophobic. We now have a pair of Vango Astral 350+ which are square footed 3 season with hood. We can zip em together for a mega double (so no restrictions on night-time activities) or unzip for separate use ( when not on nooky terms, or camping without the other one....) The other advantage is that with the extra room inside I can use a fleecy liner on cold nights.

Another vote for Vango Astrals here! I tried a mummy bag as I am sure they are the warmer design but I just couldn't get on with it. Partly to do with getting all tangled when you want to turn over and partly to do with the dog. He normally sleeps on the bottom of my bag next to my feet, but with the restricted footarea of the mummy bag he was commandeering the whole of the bottom of the bag during the night and pushing me out of the top in my sleep, like toothpaste out of a tube.

OK, slight exaggeration but you get my gist! MT

Presumably anyone who sleeps in a mummy isn't one! I am always having to get up quickly in the night to see to one of my childrens needs! I used a mummy style once but you cant move in them properly- I have a snug and cosy square leg with a cosy hood.

Boughy mummy but then changed to a kind size square - I am only 5 foot 1, at 9 stone but still found the mummy uncomfortable and LOVE my king size - from Argos with flannel inside - lovely! p.s. I have it to myself!!!

Hear, hear I can't stand mummy bags, I feel like I'm being trussed up like an oven ready chicken. Also because I sleep on my front I think that it makes the claustrophobic feeling worse if I'm using a close restictive bag - so for me it's the square bags every time.

My OH has this problem - with large chest, i use a mummy bag (open it up though and is lovely and warm) however, have looked at a colemen (sizes are 100cm across chest) these are said to be really good and warm - 2-3 season too which is good. Hope u decide on which one

I personally could not sleep in a mummy bag as I would feel too restricted.

We have always used square bags up until last weekend when we went backpacking for the first time.  Absolutely loved it.  I can't say that I felt restricted at the feet and it was certainly cozy and warm.  I am converted now.
