Lisa - As long as it's not been used for non-drinking water purposes, it should be o.k. The original aquaroll filler hose is transparent, anyway.

Just found this,so will be asking for a full refund!

Filling hose: IMPORTANT! Traditional garden hoses are not suitable for drinking water. (See the small print on hoses next time you are in B & Q!) Use the blue hose which has a white nitrile liner or hoses which are cadmium and vanadium free. After use, drain the hose before storing it away as water left in it can take on a taste from the actual hose material. Regular usage is recommended.
 

Lilyjoy as you have found out don't use it,its not safe the hoses you can use are normally blue but are marked for food use only

Yikes i've just found this on the Hozelock website

Q: Can I use my Hozelock hose for conveying drinking water?
A: Our standard hose is for garden use only. Only Hozelock Ultraflex hose is suitable for drinking water. Hozelock connectors are not suitable for conveying drinking water.

And i've made up a mains water hose using Hoselock connectors doh .

Will give them a ring monday and find out what the problem is with the connectors , i'm sure i've seen loads of people using them on caravan sites .

Try your local fish shop. The hoses use in for fish tanks are made (or should be) to drinking water spec.

 I have kept very delicate marine fish and corals for many years and I have always used a normal garden hose to fill up a water barrel, ready to go into the main tank.

In all that time I have never had  problem. I would have thought it would only be a problem if the water was sitting in the pipe for a period of time for the chemicals to leak into the water. 

I personally use a short length of hose with a adaptor (brass) to screw on to the tap for filling the Aqua roll up, and I am still ok !!!!!!!!

I bought the same item from ebay as you. The hose is not suitable for drinking water. The adaptor and connections that come with it are good though, but you will have to connect it to blue hosepipe.
