I just bought a pair of Ladies Berghaus Walking boots had seen them in my local Blacks store priced at £79.99 had a search on internet and found them for £56 plus £3 postage.

Ordered them on Saturday and they arrived Tuesday morning.

I have not mentioned winter walking as this requires a different boot again with a stiffer sole unit to take crampons and they are more expensive again you also need a lot of different skills to walk at high level in the winter times as things change so quick in the mountains

So the best advice has been already said go to a shop with trained boot fitters (ie fishers cotswolds or needlesports in Keswick) and try the different styles and types because they all have slightly different fittings so one boot from scarpa might not fit you but another style from them might.

Be prepaired to spend an hour or 2 choosing the right boots for your feet and happy walking

low level i'm lazy so need to get into it gently then who knows i could walk up ben nevis but at the mo i could only roll down it

I have a pair of Brasher boots which i bought about 5 years ago, thees replaced another pair of brasher boots that had lasted me nearly 20 years but some swine stole the car and they were in the boot, got car back but no boots. My oh has a pair of hi tec and she is wvery happy with them. I also use a cheap pair which i got from Aldi which i keep in boot of car for use on short walks round local country parks etc but have been known to use them in the peak district in all weathers.

As previously stated it is down to personal preference and the amount you want to pay out.#

They are fine for  my walking requirements - i.e. between 5-10 miles, hills n valleys rather than mountains, and not in the winter. I know I got them from Yeomans. I do have some lighter Hi-tec ones which are fine for general outdoor use (camping, warm weather walking). I do agree that going somewhere that has trained staff and a walking ramp to try out for proper fit is really good advice.

I had a pair of these for about six years and thought as a starter boot they were good value for money until i decided if i was going to take walking up more. However with boots its an unfortunate truth, that you get what you pay for and i now have a pair of scarpa gtx extra lites, which although expensive i can't recommend enough. Its like walking with nothing on my feet. Although it did take me an hour in the shop walking around to pick between these, the zamberlan and the meindl ones.

I;ve got a pair of Karrimor boots and the OH has a pair of Hi Tec ones. We are both very pleased with them.

I have had quite a few boots in the past, i used to like north face. The pro boot is the best one so far, light weight, water proof, breathable,insulated,GORE-TEX®,THINSULATE®,CAMBRELLE® and they last years..

Bought my boots in 1973 used them yesterday, still going strong.

I just got a pair of Scarpa boots off Ebay.  A lady had purchased them and wore them outside only to discover they were too small for her and the shop (undertandably) wouldn't take them back.   Over £100 worth of boot for £35.  Bargain.   They fit like a glove too.  Brilliant.   Wore them in the house for day and went shopping in them for a day.  Then took a bunch of school kids for a nature trail half expecting some problems but no, like a glove.  Am soo chuffed.   I found a website of a guy that has walked the Pennine way no less than twice and he gave them a really review too.  

As I don't walk that much I expect to wear them at my funeral!!!
