Salomon are good my OH has trianers made by them he stopped wearing his beloved CAT boots!

I swear by my brigedale socks, whist camping I was weraing them with normal socks underneath, I accedenlty stepped in some water. Took both pairs off at bed time in the morning my brdgedale socks were dry but the ordinary sock were still wet.

there are some terrific walking socks in Aldi (and sometimes Lidl) they are by Cransesports and have a cushioned foot and arch support, an inner lining and are just amazing. They have loads of walking stuff there but only every now and again. Check both websites. oh and did i mention they are cheap as chips.

I agree with the comments about Aldi's Cranesports brand. On a whim, I bought a pair of Cranesport zip-off walking trousers from Aldi for £9.99. They are far better (better material, more comfortable, better zips etc.) than another more well known brand I have that cost me £37.99.

hi Dave

yes i have bought the zip offs too and the base layer t shirts, hiking shirts, trekking poles and waterproof jacket. the only thing i bought and was dubious about were a pair of boots. they fit well and everthing but the heel is chamfered and could slip on wet scree. but i have three pairs of boots now anyway so not to worry.

I wear 'Hike' socks,the sort you buy on markets One or two pairs at a time depending on what type of walking boots/shoes I'm wearing. If I've got my leather 'hard walking' boots on I put two pairs on otherwise one pair. No need to spend a fortune. Bought a pair of wellington boot socks(£3) off Hexham market on saturday,tried them out on sunday,very comfortable and kept my legs warm,wish I'd bought a couple of pairs now. Ray

Another vote for Smartwool.

You will find them in most outdoor shops ie Cotswold, George Fisher, Snow & Rock, Field & Treck etc.

Thousand Miles are like two socks sown into one. Ideal if you suffer with blisters as the help eliminate friction between the sole of you foot and your boot.

Not very warm in the winter IMHO. especially in the Snow........mmmmmm!!!!!! Snow!!!!

I was looking for a pair of light walking boots - had an image and price in mind.... all shops i was looking in were asking around £80.00, and not what i wanted. On a whim i went to TK Max and got the exact pair i had imagined for £20.00 - bargain!:D

I've got Bridgedale socks, the thin lining socks and the thicker outer ones. Can't remember all the blurb that came with them, but something about keeping your feet dry and less sweaty, less prone to blisters I think.

We use the Bridgedale liner socks and outer socks. Been very pleased with them and my original pair of outer socks are still going strong after 5 years - with a lot of use. The wicking liner socks are much better than using normal socks in my opinion.

I wear Bridgedale socks all the time and I mean everytime I wear socks...Even to work.! I generally get the 'hiker' ones and they last for years, unlike normal ladies socks that are too thin and wear out after a few months..!
