I believe that some sites do charge extra for having a utility tent/Gazeebo/Awning. Although I whole heartedly disagree with this practise. If you are paying for your pitch then why should you have to pay extra to put something on that pitch when it isn't taking up anymore room.
You should be able to get a new Handy for much less if you search around. Alternatively look at the Wynnster Utility http://www.worldofcamping.co.uk/shop/Detail.asp?Mfg=1&ProductID=73 ignore the photo its better looking than that in blue and grey, see my profile. Skatty got the same one for even less than this, about £39 I think, but she bought it local.
Ours is the same as the one in Argos and it's perfect as a storage tent. You couldn't really sit in it - well, not more than two of you anyway. It's lightweight and goes up in about 10 minutes. We just use it to store the chairs, table, silver screen etc. We've never had to pay for it on site - yet!
Yup go for the Dayroom - this will give you somewhere to cook AND somewhere to sit to shelter from wind, rain or sun. The utitlity tent is great (I have both!) if you just want cooking space but won't give you enough room to sit in.
We use the VV500 and dayroom for most of our camping and find them a great combination.
we had one to put in our cooking equipment and fridge in we did get charged a little extra as it was on the end of our vario 5 tunnel tent and did exceed out pitch limit we did phone up to ask before hand and they said would be ok with a little charge gave us loads of extra space the only way is try but it worked for us.
im very interested in this thread as we are new to camping, and we are in the process of getting together all the gear we think we wil need. our tent is a naturebound pine 6 and is fairly roomy, but i have been mulling over the idea of a utility tent for storage of fridge, cooker etc. i like the sound of the day tent, but it is quite large, although i suppose it is similar to a gazebo in size
can someone tell me if it will fit onto most campsite pitches alone with our 6man dome tent? or would the smaller utility tent be more suitable
We've used the Sunncamp Handy (from Argos) for the first time this year. It is very useful as a kitchen / storage tent as well as a night toilet (with a Porta Potti). The door forms a huge canopy to sit under when poled out. You can see mine if you look at my picture gallery.
The only critisism that I have is that the roof tends to allow water to puddle in heavy rain, so you have to punch the roof up now and again!
Good bit of kit though and we have no regrets.

I have an Easycamp utility tent and wouldn't be without it. Makes life easier too if you want to go off site for the day, you can just chuck stuff in it and go. Can also put the portaloo in it if you have one. I've never been charged for it at a site, but then it goes behind my campervan.
Back at the beginning of the season we bought a Sunncamp Day Tent. It cost £99 and it was money well spent. Its waterproof so you can use it in the rain to sit in as an extra room or you can use it for storage and cokking in . Its alsi very strong and stable.

Rob, I had the same problem with the Wynnster Utility, rain pooling on the roof, but I then tried guying out straight to the back and front instead of at an angle from the corners, and the problem was solved. The back guyropes in particular, make sure they are very taut and pegged out as I said, in a straight line to the back not the corners. Hope this works, the Sunncamp and the Wynnster look to be the same design.
