just popped into my local B&Q early this morning and saw 12volt electric drills for a fiver. ideal for winding those legs up (they were on a trolley so dont know if they are for sale now or in the january sales ) as it was 7am. its realy great wandering around at that time .20 people saying good morning sir can i help you.(i think they all vanish by 9am though)

Just been away to a site in Warwickshire overnight, and was only thinking about a drill as I once again got the winding handle out.

Is it a plug in thing or a rechargable?

These are great for winding the steadies up and down, but we have found it is false economy to get a very cheap rechargable one as the batteries are a bit puny, don't last long, and soon stop holding their charge.

but at that price they are throw-aways.
in the summer I bought a cordless drill with a duff battery for £2 from a carboot.
Threw away the battery and fitted cables to the drill, crocodiles to the other ends.
Now I have a 12 volt drill I can use from my car battery or caravan battery.

 Nice one Frank I have a 12v with the batt going belly up so now will do the same never thought about doing it that way and I hate getting rid of something that is not totally knacked lol

Check out Wickes, I got one for £20 because the previous B&D did not last as it always need recharging. Took the Wickes to France for 3 weeks never recharged until we go home. Apparently its all to do with the number of volts, the more the better.

I called in at our local B&Q and they hadn't got any of the cheap drills, but they did have a pile of other "useful" items.
Bloke there said all B&Qs are digging into the back shelves so all sorts of clearance items are turning up.

Adding cables to a 12 volt drill isn't my idea, I got it from a mate.
erm... this only works with 12 volt cordless. Think about it. A 14 volt would run slow, but would probably still work, but a 7 or a 9... actually we're not sure what would happen but doubt if it would be pretty!

I have been using a 9.6 volt drill powered off the 12volt system via a flying lead for nearly two years for DIY and in the van with no problems,it gets a bit warm if used for long periods,I have run it for quite long periods using it as a grinder.

I have a Bosch 7.2 V cordless drill that I got for £2 at a car boot as its the same body as my 12V ones and I got it for spares.

It has been working well onthe 12V battery packs for some time now
