I have a c270 pz lantern and it was great until the mantle got damaged.
I replaced the mantle with a medium sized one that was recommended and the lantern isn't nearly as bright as before.
It's obvious I've got the wrong size, but should I have bought small or large?
Not sure as I use electric lighting, but do you know if the original was smaller or larger than the one you bought. That should give you some indication. I would have thought larger in theory as that would give a larger surface area of light, but I'm sure someone will come along and give a definate reason why that theory is wrong.
I always get the standard size mantle for my Campingaz lantern - I thought they were all the same size as I've never seen another one. Tilley type paraffin lamps take a bigger size. Could it be that you are using a diffferent gas, or is it getting low?

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
Nope I am a bit stumped by your conundrum. I always though it was the medium one for the C270 lamp. I need the large ones for my big camping gaz 907 lamp but got some medium ones by mistake. However, on two occasions now I have been able to help out owners of the 270 lamp who had run out of mantles.
it's the same gas as it was only used on the one night before I wrecked the mantle.
The reason I'm not sure about whether larger or smaller is that maybe a larger mantle gives more light, but maybe the gas doesn't heat the larger mantle enough to give off as much light.
Whatever, I'm stuck until someone knows as it is a lot dimmer at the moment than it was with the supplied one.
I'm not in any rush as I'm going nowhere until it's a lot warmer and I've also bought an electric hook-up.
It's just bugging me and there's no obvious e-mail addy on the website to ask.
Did you burn the mantle off before you lit it? When you put a new one on you then need to light it with the gas switched off. The mantle will light and gradually burn out. It is then safe to light. Also, might sound silly, but my petrol lantern gets very smoky inside the glass. Give that a clean everytime you change the mantle.
Also dont forget that the ambient temp. has a lot to do with the brightnes of the lamp, a few days ago I found it almost impossible to light mine untill i had brought it in doors to warm.
This also aplies to gas stoves especialy those without a pre-heat tube, for this reason I rely on petrole as My winter fule for cooking and lighting
