Hello all and happy xmas,

I have a bit of a problem!

The zip on my sleeping bag has packed in (don't have much luck with zips, but thats another story)

I was wondering if anyone knew where i could get it fixed hopefully less than £20 and in a reasonable time.

Its rated to minus 20 or something like that so its worth the effort.

My local outdoors shop said they could send it for me and cost=£30 plus 3-4 weeks.

That sounds like pretty poor service to me, don't ya reckon?

Well thanks in advance and happynew year

If you have a dry cleaners near you they will normaly be able to undertake that sort of repair.

I replaced one by hand once. The bag was too good to throw away it was a long job but worth it.

Not sure that "less than £20" is a bit ambitious..... the zip itself will probably be quite expensive (IMHO) and then there is the time it takes to take the old one out and stitch the new one in!

I did a quick search on google and found these  Scottish Mountain Gear - Repairs.  Might be worth a try.

A tip on another link btw was to unpick the old zip before you send it away for replacement as apparently this cuts down on the repair time considerably!

Good luck

go to a tent repair place, they will sell you a zip by the meter and it will be a lot stronger than the usual type

Try http://pointnorth.co.uk I bought continuous 6mm zip at £1.48 per metre (plus 36p each for double sliders) from them, and was extremely pleased with the quality when it arrived. It's the best YKK zip. It would be well worth taking the time to unpick the broken zip and sew the new one in yourself at these prices.
