Probably suggesting the obvious, but instead of forking out for a telescopic pole to fly your windsocks and flags - go down to your local flea market or tip and grab a couple of long fishing poles, strip the rings off leaving the top one on and then give the whole lot a clean. Unscrew the bottom plug and voila, one pole for a fraction of the price (or in my case 3x 15ft rods for a fiver!)
Interesting... I've tried our local tackle shops and the cheapest I was quoted was £11 for a 4 metre. Ebay has some for about £8. Thats why I tried "alternate" sources!
She who must be obeyed has said "no" to any more poles now! (we have six ranging from 3 to 9 metres) as well as a mass of tealights. As you can imagine our caravan is fairly easy to spot in the middle of a site!
Sorry if this is a bit naïve, but what do you need a windsock for? We've got a few at our gliding club, but I can't think of why I'd need one on a camping site!!

Because it's fun.
There is no logical reason to having a windsock, flags, and I'm sorry, I have a rope light up one of my poles except it's fun!!!!
One of the ideas of having a windsock is that on a busy site or rally it is sometimes difficult for kids (and some adults) to find their way back to the caravan, so its much easier to look for the windsock (except that loads of people have them now!).
Also, as Morrisbob says, it's a bit of fun. My children love putting them up and its a little bit of individuality in a sea of white boxes!
Morrisbob - I have a rope light left over from Christmas - great idea!!
