does anyone have any suggestions on 12Volt lighting, i have looked at the strips in argos, but want to know if anyone has any other suggestions/cheaper places to get them

For use in a tent or awning a 12V fluorescent inspection lamp is cheap and convenient with its built in hook

I also use a 12v lamp with halogen bulb as bedside lamps. It was originaly a 240v lamp with a transformer in the base. I bypassed the transformer and used a 12v plug, leaving the transformer in for balast. The lamp is on a pair of extending rods rather like aerials, which also carry the current. I got the first one from a car boot, but they are quite cheap in B & Q etc.

if you are running 12V then i reccomend you get one of these from maplin, it cuts off the supply when you run the battery below 11.5V and it only cost £5. its stops you over discharging a battery, and if you are running off the car it means you will always still be able to start the car!

Do a search on LED's, they use much less power than any other lighting. the best ones are called luxeon star LED's. you can run hundreds of then for less power consumption than fluorescents and more light output.. Don't bother with the low outputs go for high output or as i said luxeon star LED's.

I got a car plug in 12v strip lamp from Machine Mart for about £7 & have been using it for two years in pretty big tent without any problems. Its got a nice long lead too.

I got one from towsure. It has clips on the back so it will clip to ther tent / awning poles. I think it was about £12. It came with croc. clips which I cut off and fitted a cigarette lighter plug.
