Do a search on LED's, they use much less power than any other lighting. the best ones are called luxeon star LED's. you can run hundreds of then for less power consumption than fluorescents and more light output.. Don't bother with the low outputs go for high output or as i said luxeon star LED's.

or look here http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/ you can even make your own strip lighting from LED's. they also do torches and car or home replacement bulbs. there are lots more site to surf, just do it via google etc.
