No electrics are 100% safe, not even in your house. Tents are damp and occasionally very wet places.Condensation gets everywhere. Buy a proper EHU with a residual current device and don`t take the risk. If it`s still too expensive to meet the budget, either plug your hairdryer in at the shower or laundry block, or use the coin operated ones provide on many sites.
I must say, I appreciate the desire to take a hairdrier! But I always managed to find somewhere to plug mine in before we got an EHU. Pure luxury to have EHU in a tent though...!
