Yes I agree with previous contributors about camping mags just being one big advert, and the value of this forum.
I believe that, within reason, (i.e. still in contact with civilisation & mild weather conditions) camping is not rocket science. There are so many things that amount to 'personal preferences' which are not absolute dos and donts. So camping is best learned by just doing it and chatting to other campers. (An irritatingly helpful lot if you are not on the mood!!)
Sorry to digress slightly, but when I first saw the title of this thread, my mind went to books about camping expeditions. I relish these, for example: Sir Edmind Hilary's expedition to Everest, or Scott and Shackletons expeditions to the Antarctic. These are fantastic accounts of human endevour.
Great reading when you are tucked up in your sleeping bag!!
