We've bought new sleeping bags this year (warm enough to survive the Arctic) but due to a medical condition, our 11 yr old daughter feels the cold a lot more than normal. We were going to invest in a fleece liner for her sleeping bag but were horrified at the cost. Then we spotted a stall at our local market selling fleece by the metre. So we bought a few metres and with the aid of my mom's sewing machine, ran up a toasty little sleeping bag liner of our own. The cost? £2.50.

They can be a bit expensive, for what they are... I got a pair of 'Coleman' cotton flannel ones, they were over a tenner each... Also got some light cotton 'doubles' for summer, I think they were about a tenner a go, as well...
One of my sisters is very handy, with a sewing machine... I reckon I'll have to keep an eye open, for some light cotton, I could do with a bit more camping 'bed linen'...

Check out the sales for flat sheets and duvet covers, Shaws the drapers often have cotton duvet covers for a fiver. easily cut and hemmed to size.
I don't know whether we have a 'Shaws the Drapers' around here, but that doesn't matter... It's the idea that counts!... I'll look for some cheap 'flat sheets' or 'quilt covers', then set my sister to work altering them!...
Asda do some cheap duvet covers too. I bought a double one last year, unpicked the side seams to around 27" and then fitted a zip down each side - it worked a treat The zips were cheap too - I used the zip on a roll which you cut to size & fit the puller on yourself, £5 for 5 metres.
I had a fleece sleeping bag for almost 15 years now, still good as new, its warm in winter including an overnight in my VW Transporter at almost freezing point in January, but on the plus side it can be cool in the summer, only one problem, its bulky, so I use one of those compression bags that you roll or vacuum the air out, then its half its size.
i managed to pick up 2 fleece sleeping bag liners for a fiver each in lidles last year.they were so warm that we used just the liner in summer last year and layed on top of the bag itself. i wish that i had got a couple more so am hoping that they will be sold again this year.mandy
