you have to buy a newer version of the maps. They are not that accurate in UK and they don't seem to update annoying errors that regularly
thing is to edit any problems you have, ie: set it as a no go area. or any you know of before you go. it can take up to 5 years for maps to get updated. most of tomtom takes 2-3 years from what i can see, hope that helps.
I have had Tomtom on a PDA for about 4 years. They update the program and maps about every 12 to 18 months. Last June it cost 59 euro for the new stuff. I expect the same this year. If not enough people report issues with the maps than they don't know to fix it. If you buy a TT 700 now you can have free upgrade to the new maps, so they are coming out. I get a visit from the Tomtom rep monthly so if I hear any more I'll let you all know.
We used our pda-based Tomtom at the weekend, for the first time 'properly'. It was an absolute godsend! I know what you mean regarding updates, however Tomtom aren't responsible for the mapping data and it's accuracy, it's a company called TeleAtlas, who seem to be the mappers of choice for the majority of satnav manufacturers.
