Hi Lynette

Welcome to the madhouse

firstly depends which end of the country your going

secondly the quality of the sleeping bags dont be fooled into argos bags spend an extra few quid and get some decent bags with comfort levels down to -14 or better.

thirdly the size of the tent the bigger the tent the more air to heat. If it is cold cram as many into a small area as possible it realy does make a difference 12 scxouts in one tent gives off enough heat to grow tomatoes.

wear hats and socks if it gets realy cold and a cotton or similar track suit

dont be put off by cold I have camped in -10 a liitle bit of forethought goes a long way to comfort and your going in the right direction

Im sure you'll have a fantastic time

Cheap fleece blankets roll up fairly small to fit in the car, and they will be great as an extra layer over the top of your sleeping bags, or even wrapped around you inside the bag. If you've got enough space in the car you could even take duvets from home to use on top of your sleeping bags.

Just remember that its easier to take off layers to cool down but its harder to add layers to heat up.

Hi Lynette we went last week with 4 young kids and we had a fab time BUT it was chilly at night so be prepared! The kids all wore hats, thick socks and thermal long pants and vests under their pjs and slept all night without a problem. We bought thermals at the last minute and I am glad that we did. If you are prepared for a cold night then you will be ok! My advice to you is if you can fit in extra blankets then do so because you can always take them off. Also if it is cold the stars will be amazing!! Have Fun!!

I bought my thermals from Millets. They are really soft inside and they have have them in navy and pink for £6.99. They also sell long thermal t-shirts and very thick kids socks for £4.99 for 2.

We had very thin sleeping bags which we bought from Aldi in the sale, it was ideal for summer but not for winter.  We ended up buying fleece blankets and a big thick duvet.  I think in the colder months you have to be prepared.  Plenty of layers so as you get warmer during the night you can kick them off.
