I'm about to order my Waeco Mobicool 40L based upon the good feedback i've received from you all about these, can anyone tell me the bestplace to get one from, at the moment the best I can get is £139 from Waudby's with £4.95 postage - any one got any better offers for me ????

Thanks in advance

Nat

When I looked last year they were all a pretty similar price.  Just make sure you can fit it in your car boot.  We can get it into my hatchback boot but it is too big to go through the boot opening in OH's saloon car.   It is a fantastic piece of kit!

Hi Nat

I've just measured mine (it's the Combicool so last years model but I guess the sizes are the same) and it's 48cm x 48cm x 42cm (high), it will take up a lot of bootspace.  Having said that it is one of the best bits of kit that we've bought so for us it's very worthwhile.  We pack ours full of kitchen gear and use it as a storage box for travelling rather than running it on 12v on the way to a site.

Perhaps slow up on what you're buying - it's better to get out there and have a few weekends away and then work out what you think you might need for you and your family rather than buying everything that you think you might need to start with.  Otherwise you're in danger of spending all your pennies on stuff that you might work out you don' need and have nothing left for the things you've decided you do need!!!

(I'd still buy the Mobicool though!)

Hi

Make sure you buy the very latest model that offers cooling of 30degrees below ambient. That is 10deg better than last years model. The new ones are grey in colour.

From a size perspective this model is larger than the SIdor RC1100 but remember you can put stuff inside ! I think it will make a great beer cooler for the patio during the non camping weekends

I have just ordered one from World of Camping (same price) based on the excellent service we had when we bought the tent last year.

Good luck

MMMM Waudby's is blue so I think i'll go for the one at world of camping - thanks!

Piglet, I guess it does appear that I am buying EVERYTHING I'm not honest & I'm making sure I research everything with you experts prior to parting with any money - I just want to get it right so we can get maximum enjoyment - beleive it or not I am simply buying the essentials!!!!! I figure if we have the most comfy airbed, the warmest sleeping bags a quality fridge etc etc it will prevent any negative feelings about it all - basically we've cancelled a £1600 trip in a static van to do this so in some ways we have a fair budget to play with and won't have anything to loose as that's what we'd have spent in the static van if you see my point!!

That's my excuse anyway and i'm sticking to it!!

Hi Nat, sorry, didn't mean to come across as having a go at you!!!   £1600 sounds like a nice budget to play with and a good way to set yourself up with all of the gear.  What I guess I'm getting at is that I think we've all found things that we thought were "must haves" based on what other people have said but then found that we don't find them useful.

As you say - anyway who needs an excuse to buy more camping gear!! Hope you have fun!!

Wow I'm coming camping with you

In all honesty the only think I'd bin is the wardrobe, I don't have the patience to faff around with things like that - give me a holdall and a couple of plastic stacking boxes and I'm happy!   (buying a stack of boxes that pack in together is a good idea and stacking them all together empty for travelling is a good tip I picked up from here - we jam our kitchen stuff in one box for travelling and then spread it out when we ge where we're going - you can do the same with clothes etc.).

We love our Sunncamp daytent and find it really useful to shelter from rain, wind and sun.

I'm jealous of the Pett toilet, I've bought some Wagg bags and a bucket with Lid as we don't have the cash or the space in the car!  I might well upgrade next year.

Presumably you've got other kitchen stuff?  Tin openers, bottle openers (v. v. important!), pans, stirrers, grater etc. etc?   We have a waffel iron that goes on the Coleman dual fuel cooker so we can make waffles, also a crepe pan for pancakes (at least the kids can flip them without you having to worry about your walls & ceiling) , stuff like that is really nice when you're camping.

You haven't got lamps on your list?  Head torches and glow sticks are nice for kids I think.   Also kitchen stand or something to put your cooker on unless it has a stand and another table to prepare food on?

At risk of boring everyone rigid, I've posted my "weekend" list below - bear in mind this is often for group camping where we end up being "mummy and daddy" to the five thousand and that we don't use EHU!!   By way of explanation the vast number of washing up bowls are a cheap set bought in france that we use for washing up (usually no facilities) and other storage as they all nest in together!   I've also not put the tents in although in true compulsive obsessive they appear on the original list!!

Have fun and enjoy your camping, when is your first trip?

Mine's covered in "cutlery bag" I made a bag that all our cutlery goes into so you can just pick it up and go!

Oh I just thought i'd mention the actual 'camping' things i'd bought as opposed to all the other thousands of things i'll be taking along too!

Piglet, can I ask the spikes, chain & Padlock for fridge - Is that for the combicool ?????? Forgive my ignorance!

Cooking things etc etc are naturally things i'll be getting/have already so don't worry I haven;t forgot the essentials.

Where's the best place to get the silver foil for under the beds ?

Our first official trip is in August , we're off to Perranporth(but will spend most of our time on Crantock beach -weather permitting) for two weeks, although we are going to try and get away for a weekend between now and then to practice!(Near Weston hopefully) Just hope we like it else we'll be dreading the main one! Although last week after a good old drink I was adamant 'I LOVE CAMPING' even though i've never been, my brother insists we have to do a video diary!

Planning to put the tent up in the garden again this weekend so we look professional when we hit the sites!!

Thanks again for some great tips
