In the past I have commented on how expensive the GO Outdoors stores are, they get you to purchase a discount card from them, but the discounted goods are just as expensive or more expensive as other stores. I have just had the chance to open this month's C&CC magazine and in it GO are advertising Aquarolls and Wastemasters RRP £54 but £39 with the discount price. In the same magazine Halfords advertise them for £35.09 and Towsure comes in it only £32.95. As I have said before the GO discount card is just a rip off.

------------- Some people have nothing much to say, but you often have to listen for a while before you realise it!
I popped in to the Stockport branch on Saturday and saved money even after buying the discount card. Awning tie down strap in a local caravan dealers £19.99, Towsure ££7.99+p&p as I live in Wales. Go Outdoors £5+discount card. As I go past whilst visiting family in Oldham I'll pop in for minor purchases again. But for major stuff and bits and bobs I'll wait until I've got a good order up and either use Towsures Mail order or take a drive out making a day out of and hit a few caches along the way. Go Outdoors were selling regatta fleeces (1/4 zip in Red) for £5 so there are bargains to be had there even with the cost of the discount card.

I bought a MontBlanc Barracuda Cycle Carrier from GoOutdoors for £50 (Coventry store). Halfords and many other places charch £89.99.
I was even quoted £60 at an auto outlet I had a trade card for (Trade Price).. GoOutdoors can be excellend value for specific products and can charge a little more for others.
BTW. The cycle carriers and many other products they sell in store are not advertised on the website.
We used Go Outdoors as they deliver. I bought both our wastemaster and aquaroll and they only charged £3.50 for delivery and that was for the both NOT each. We live in Aberdeenshire and to me the saving was well worth it.
------------- My photos allow you to see what I saw at the time that I took it....No messing.
We have always found gooutdoors are competitively priced - just ordered Outwell aluminium wardrobe at £18.90+£3.50 carriage instead of £27+ £4.25 carriage at outdoormegastore - £9.35 difference!
I wonder if it's because Mitchells have changed since they were taken over by Go Outdoors? The Mitchells emphasis was on the major products - Tents, Trailer tents and Folding campers, their accessory department was more than adequate and the prices were right for we canny northern folk. The Go Outdoors emphasis has shifted the product range away from anything but tents and clothes - the extras come a poor 2nd to the clothing range.
Not sure i agree with you about Khyam (cant comment on Cabanon).
Last year there were so many problems with the Ridgipod I am sure many retailers wonder about the quality and 'service' from Khyam now.
I think Outwell have moved into a market leading position led by the popular Montana and Hartford models PLUS the numerous practical accessories they supply.
The relevance of market leaders and individual opinions thereof is almost an irrelevance in this case as the thread was opened with comment as to the cost incurreed by shopping at Go Ourdoors/Mitchells/CCC as opposed to other suppliers. I can tell you that our recent trip ti Sheffield - Towsure was well worth it (we live within 2 miles of Mitchells) we saved over £10 on 2 small items by going there.
Just my opinion, but I have foung Gooutdoors in Coventry to be very competitive. I know the discount card may seem a bit of a rip-off but at least they send you tailored offers thru the post.
we've used the mitchells store quite a few times and have found that on a great deal of stuff they are cheaper, but recently we wanted to buy a cadac but they only had one left and that was the display model (£140), we asked if we could buy it but with a discount as we'd seen one the net £100, they said yeah we'll sell it for £100 but when checked in box found there were bits missing and as I said to OH why pay £100 for summat thats not all there when can it brand new....so we left it and ordered one on-line

I would agree that Go Outdoors is a litlle dearer in most areas. However, I think in the Midlands, it is the best store for range, choice and customer care and I am prepared to pay that bit more for a good service. That is not to say that I dont shop around on the net but in many instances I have found them to be quite competitive.
