I've just bought one of those cheapo £35 Sagem Freeview boxes from Curry's.

Absolutely fantastic - from unpacking box to fully operational in less than 5 minutes.

Works a treat with my Status aeriel so I can totally recommend it. Have gone from 3 dodgy channels to 32 crystal clear channels.

Bloke in the van next to me was so impressed he went straight off and bought one himself - and my parents are doing the same thing next weekend.

Your right, I had trouble with my analogue signal, I could barely see the picture, so I didnt hold out much hope for the Freeview when itried it, but it works really well. Although my external caravan aerial had a run in with a COW!!! but thats a whole new thread.

Aldi will be selling a Tevion Freeview box in the next week or two. If I remember rightly, the cost is £26.99. Saw it today in the leaflet inside the store when I went to buy my headlamp, stell flask, leisure mats etc etc this morning.

I can recommend the Durabrand Freeview box from ASDA for £27-97. It comes with a SCART and UHF lead.

We did the same last year buying a real cheapo, (under 30 quid), from Asda and it was instant clear piccy on our flat screen LCD thingy. No doubt about it those status jobbies just don't work if you're surrounded by hills etc.

Also first time EVER that we had channel 5 in Cornwall!

And it meant that we could do away with the aerial pole that almost reached MARS at long last!!! (It tended to grow a bit more EVERY year!). One liccle pole did the trick on the bog standard aerial.

Hi MadFrank. Which Status aerial do you use it with? (Flying Saucer or Directional)

Just watching this thread because we spent a small fortune on a directional aerial and have only managed to get one channel each time we've been away - and neither of them was watchable!  We've got the flying saucer on our new caravan so it'll be interesting to see how that goes.  I'm leaning towards Freeview though - I think Asda and Argos both do them for under £30 now.

Thanks Nora.Whoops! I'm in the process of changing from Flying Saucer to Directional! Most fo the research I've done so fsar suggests these are the better aerial (by definition you can seek out the strongest signal) though I accept that if you're in mountainous regions nothing is much good. I thought that with a directional.backed up by an indoor booster I'd be ok(esp if using a Freeview box) But which indoor booster??

I use directional with the freeview almost without any problems, by the way, Aldi will have a free view box in this week I think for about £27.

Don't get over excited Nora....coz the one on our new van is.....a FLYING SAUCER...and we get diddly squat from it without an aerial on a pole, (mercifully now MUCH shorter than it was before we got the Freeview box).

We just thought we'd see how the flying saucer one goes, although we don't hold out much hope and we'll probably still need the multi-directional one.

I bought a freeview box in Asda for £25 this morning. Trouble is, we can't try it out at home because we're not in the best area and need to up-grade our aerial!!

Nora
