testing a new dog tether out this weekend on my sis's 2 yr old collie so will let you know. The metal spikey bit is from Amazingoutdoors(JK) and the leash bit off Ebay. There is a ring on the spike that moves around the pole so hopefully the dog won't end up getting nearer and nearer to the spike

We've started using a karabena on a dog ground spike. it seems to keep the lead further from the spike and getting tangled. Our old dog, I'm sure, used to get very tangled on purpose so we'd take pity on her and take it off. She could really tie herself in knots.

We had this problem with our dog but we solved it by using  2 spikes. fasten a lead/ rope between them and then put the dogs lead on this rope the dogs can then move from side to side with out tangling as often not saying it totally cures it but certain reduced the amount of time the dog was trussed up like a chicken

Two pegs sounds good but I am so clumsy I am sure I would end up tripping over the running wire between!

You could also try one Delta ground anchor?

Or we had a yellow metal dog tether from Pets At home which was a pyramid shape rather than a corkscrew. It was harder to get in and out of the ground but the dog didn't get tangled.

However, I have yet to find how to place any kind of dog tie-out where it is close enough to the tent for the dog to be happy and out of other people's way but where he doesn't wrap himself around guyropes!  We usually end up having to take some guys on and  off their pegs if the dog is  on the tie out. MT

We use the poles from wind breakers and the lead from those extendable leads?...dog usually goes round and round in circles and is quite happy!

Surely if you're checking your babies regularly they wouldn't be tangled enough to be stressed would they? We miss Rixey when he's tethered outside even though our van door is always open I like to keep him insight at all times.

No problems with it at all, Brae (the dog) is a lively 2 year old collie and even though we were pitched in view of a couple of other dogs he didn't get himself tangled. This is the corkscrew thingy http://www.amazingoutdoors.com/product_info.php?products_id=52

only problem was the leash that I got from Ebay said approx 6 feet more like 4 to 5!, we attached his lead to it to extend it.
