anthing so you dont get a bad back and it will hold the heat. we had a low 12" table in our first small tent. butnow we have a frame we have one of those concertina folding cooker stands.
Make sure there is plenty of ventilation otherwise you will retain the food smell in the material. Be careful not to drop hot fat etc onto plastic groundsheets - all common sense really!
Outside is No1 safest place but if it`s raining then somewhere inside the tent that doesn`t have a groundsheet is best, or put a washable picnic rug under the kitchen area. You`ll need some sort of table or support stand (not plastic) if cooking inside just to keep it off the floor, but outside you can use most camp cookers on the grass.
Keep any cooking or gas device well away from the tent walls or low/sloping ceilings, don`t have the cooker between you and the exit and ventilate the area well. Don`t allow kids anywhere near the kitchen unit either...these things can be a bit wobbly. Keep a bucket of water handy as well.
Best place in your tent would be to pole out the awning and cook under there, with perhaps a windbreak to provide some shelter.
Hi peggie ........ welcome to Ukcampsite ..... we cook on all sorts - inside and out - when using the double burner ..... we put it on table (cheaper plastic top with crossed legs that clip on) with gas bottle underneither .... we do have a camp kitcken but rarely take it with us, due to space
We use gripper matting under most things, just to stop them roaming around
We used to just cook on a camping table with a windbreak round for shelter, but it was rubbish when it rained or late at night. We are now in our third season of camping and this year have bought a kitchen tent, camp kitchen stand where you bolt the cooker to it, and finally a combicool Yey!
We use a camping table to stand our twin burner on & we now use it inside our new utility tent (before that we used it either inside the frame tent or if weather permitted outside behind windbreak).
We have used an old metal army storage box for years but I need something at standing height now so we have got a camp kitchen with shelves for storage beneath it. Outdoor focus hav a good range of these here. I prefer to cook outside for safety and odour/fat splashing reasons, but do cook inside if weather is foul, following precautions outlined above.
I take a gazebo camping with me i use this as a cooking area so that we have the living area for eating/drinking etc, much better i think than having cooking smells in the tent or struggling with the rain!!
