I'm interested in a 12v power pack just to supply a colour tv. Can anybody give me any guidance on these, prices etc. How long it is likely to power a tv before it's flat? How do you recharge it... mains or car and how long it takes?

Many thanks,

Mike

Hello there Mikeshe. I use these 12v power packs for fishing, photography and camping. I would say first of all how many amp hours does your TV use? If your Tv uses 4 amps per hour, and you have a 12 amp hour battery in your power pack you would think that you would get 3 hours out of it but you dont... You must never drain your power pack right down as this could damage it permanently so be careful... There is a better option, buy a leisure battery. Most of these start from about 75 AH (amp hour) up to about 110 AH. You can buy them from camping and leisure shops or Halfords etc..  You will need to buy a cigarette socket or a double one even etc with crocodile clips to connect it to the  leisure battery. The power packs you can charge from the mains at home or via the cigarette socket in your car or even a EHU on a campsite. The  leisure battery wich i think is the better option can be charged at home before you go or via a UHU to top it up, (you may need a  leisure battery charger too....

I hope this helps to start you off, but there is a bit more to it than i have answered. I use power packs and a  leisure battery (110 AH)

Good luck. I hope other members add to my post to help you.

Thanks for the info Delta9. I was thinking of getting one for when I go fishing overnight. I have an 85AH leisure battery but it is heavy and bulky. I was looking at the power packs as a lighter and less bulky alternative.

Your info has helped me, I now need to see how much power the tv draws.

Thanks,

Mike

This might be one of those 'How long is a piece of string?' questions.
I have a power pack that I have lost the charger adaptor to. I have managed to charge it to a certain extent using a Power Devil 9v drill charger. I'm guessing that it needs a 12v charger but I don't want to risk damaging it. Unfortunately it seems to be a generic power pack with no name or information on it. Is there a typical type charger for these things? Would a 12v 1000ma adaptor (which I happen to have) damage it?

I'm trying a 12v adaptor right now but I'm fairly sure the current is far too low. I tried the 1000ma one though and the unit had a fit. Could someone have a look at their powerpack mains charger and tell me what current it should be?
Cheers.
