Hi all,

I am visiting the UK for a month this year from Germany. I have done most of my camping during my life in the UK (being originally from London), but now find myself travelling in the opposite direction.

I've bought a couple of new bits of kit recently, namely a new cooker and a 3-way fridge. My question is this.... since we will be travelling with 'European' applicances and gas bottles... are there generally facilities around (in your experience) to get these exchanged or re-filled?? What would the options be??

I thought they would either be: a) bring enough gas for the whole trip (not easy to plan), b) try to get an adapter for a UK gas bottle and then either buy/rent them (expensive), c) get the gas bottles re-filled in the UK as necessary!!

If anyone has any ideas/information/experiences about this, then that would be great.

Cheers guys.

Jason

Thanks for the info guys.

This is where I am getting a little confused though.... is the fitting on the top of a camping Gaz bottle, likely to be the same as my European gas bottles?? They are both 11Kg's and I am not sure if they are just Butane, or a Butane/Propane mix.

The flanges seem similar to the UK ones, and I think the threads are the same (I still have my old UK cooker), but if i remember correctly, the flanges on UK gas bottles have a recess in them, whereas the European regulators have a small tube that protrudes from the end of the regulator and fits in a hole on the gas bottle flange.... or am I just mad, and they'll re-fill/exchange the bottles for me at most camp sites?!

Thanks again

Jason

Hi jfarenden

The camping gas bottles are usually called 901 904 907 bottles not sure about weight, but if yours are one of these bottles you will be able to get them no problem as they sell them all over the world and all the same, most campsites and some petrol stations sell gas as well as larger camping shops.

My regulator has a stickyout bit that screws into the top of the bottle, so I think they are the same as yours, it would be better to see a picture of what you mean?

200the plastic bit comes off as the thread is underneath.

Happy camping
