I think these are the old style ones with solid sides, the ones from Lakeland are the latest model with mesh sides. But hey what do I know I've never bought or used a Cobb, so I could be wrong.

It looks a very good price tho'.

The grill plates from bbq warehouse are silver and do not have the xylan non stick coating - other than that they are the same ....... and do the same job as the other Cobbs

Silver grill plates are on the first type, and are a b###er to clean. The coated one is the same size and available for around £23. But then you might as well buy a later one. Nevertheless its a brilliant piece of kit.

I've got the latest model and I can clean it in under 10 mins. I wouldn't go for anything without the non-stick pans.

The one from lakeland comes with bag, recipe book, and rack. Parents brought one from Lakeland 2 weeks ago, and it was the old plastic (better!) bottomed one. The silver grill plates must be very easy to clean, as I have the coated one and it only takes a minute to clean, even when it has been used for hours, and been left for days.

Mat.

So have I got this right:-

The original version as being sold by BBQ Warehouse has plastic bottom but the grill plates are silver coloured and very difficult to clean

Mark 2 is the one being sold by Lakeland, plastic bottom still but non-stick grill plate

Mark 3 is the new fancy one shown on the website with mesh sides which make the food take longer to cook 'cos it lets air in

??????????????????

So it's a Lakeland one I need when I've saved my pennies?

Hi Caz
Sure you have got it right,do you think they changed to the mesh sides for a particular reason or is is just designer chic. Seems daft if it takes longer to cook. My grill plates are silver coloured, I usually lightly oil them before cooking and if necessary use a scouring pad after.

A while ago, there were a couple of posts about the older models melting. Judging by the number of cobbs around & the low number of reports of this happening I would  not have thought that its anything to be alarmed about. This is a guess but maybe the change to steel mesh casing was to resolve this problem.

I have one of the newer ones & I thought that I might be doing something wrong as things did seem to take longer than the recipes said they should.  I'll use 10 heat beads in future & try to shield it from wind as much as possible.

The one in the link is the same as mine but the lid is slightly different shape, but that might just be an obscure photo of it. Great price, bargain! I think they all come with non-stick grill plate, dont they??? If not then you can easily improvise using a non-stick pizza tray or something...lots of variations around to use.

Nearly Caz .......... mine is older one from the Cobb man ....... black grill plate - non stick, but not as good as the newer ones xylan coating I think it's called ...... could be mk2/3/4  - don't know - just know it sticks now  [:x] even when greased [:x]

The solid black from the Cobb man and Lakeland are really good non stick .........

I have the Mk2 (solid base and nonstick plate).Looks like this is the best bet as its non stick and a sinch to clean.
