http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Outdoor-camping-fishing-portable-HEATER-FREE-GAS_W0QQitemZ8816787402QQcategoryZ19296QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

after reading a bit about them on here I had a trawl through ebay and found these at £15....so I bought one and at that price it has to be a bargain as I saw the same heater in winfields for £39.99...so I cannot complain but my question is this....

In regards to buying the gas for it - is there any specific gas I should get or are all the ones I have seen in packs of 4 & single cans the same - just different coloured cans ?

I would appreciate anyone else who has one of those heaters or knowledge of them to help me out as i am genuinely unsure as I am still a newbie to all things camping !

thanks

The canister are all a standard size - just different packaging.  Watch the prices - most places now sell these for about £1.20 - however I have still seen them for £1.99.
They are the same canisters that fit in the suitcase cookers.

For anyone in cheshire area think I saw these heaters on sale at Great Outdoors near Sealand Chester for about £15 seemed a good price as we were looking at them for about £40 before we bought our Black Cat heater last year.
Gas canisters are all the same butane ones just different packaging for different makes we use plenty of different ones for our two cookers.

Would you recommend this type of heater? We bought a fan heater from Argos last year but I found I was still cold later in the evening and I had my thermals on!

Used on of these for the first time this weekend.  We didn't have it on max power as it really wasn't that cold just used it to take the chill out of the air.  It seamed to be ok.

A little tip -  when the gas canisters start to get too low to be of little use for heating food in your gas stove retain them instead of throwing them away and use the last remaining gas in the heater.

Hi  Burmese, Did you have the £15 ebay one or a more expensive one from a camping shop?. I have seen them in my local camping shop for £40.  are they the same? I usually use a fan heater in the awning for the evenings, but it conked out on our last trip. We have a halogen but don't find that as good as the fan heater, and are going to be without ehu for 15 days.

the campingaz cartridges from argos have slightly more gas in + burn a lot hotter. these fires are great for the awning. we used 3 canisters for 5 nights use. i.e 8pm -12pm.

i brought one of these heaters from the same seller on EBay and the heater is great. I am always cold but it does a treat warming up the tent when you are ready for bed. It does not use gas as much as i thought it would either. we used 1 canister for 2 night on for about 5/6 hrs total.

I will prob buy the big pack from Argos once the cannisters i have got run out.

I have young children and you do need to be careful but i think it is quite sturdy and safe as it can be. It would only cause a problem if a child / adult knocked iit over and left it knocked over or threw clothing over it etc...
