Hi all, we are thinking of buying a gas stove - we have been using a small butane one ring cooker and bbq up until now.  However, am a bit confused about gas bottles !  Does it matter what type of gas you use?  We are not too keen on the idea of the refillable gas bottles as our nearest camping shop is some distance - or do they offer refills at campsites?    Can you use the butane / propane cannisters (CV470 Campingaz Gas Cartridges) with a camping stove ?

Any advice appreciated greatly !

We use a gas bottle, they last longer than you think. Weare in the C&CC and they do refills, I think quite a few other campsites do refills too. Sorry I don't know about the other cartridges.

Most double burner gas stoves run on either Calor Gas or Camping Gaz which are the refillable bottles in various sizes. A lot of garages and DIY shops sell Calor as well as camping sites and shops.

You could consider the Coleman Dual fuel Double burner which runs on either Colemans own fuel, which you would still need to buy from a camping shop, or unleaded petrol.

I dont know of any double burner /grill type cookers that run on the small disposeable bottle like the single burners.

I think Magicaly is right _ can't think of any twin ring stove that uses th ecannisters rather than bottles.

Unless you are camped in the wildest woods you can find lots of places that do the bottle exchange. The only time it is a problem is if you are going abroad -then you can only get Camping-gaz rather than Calor.

Calor works out a little cheaper and is more reliable in winter as it is propane and will keep working through the cold. Stove will work on either kind of bottle gas- you just need to get the right regulator for the gas you are using; this sits on top of the bottle and  makes sure the gas pressure is right for your appliance.

If you don't need a grill, you might be better off with two of the cheap single burner stoves (using the 'aerosol' type cannisters).
