Years ago I remember people used to mount wind deflectors on the roof of the tow car, I think that they used to be called wind jammers, has anyone ever usde one of these and did it save them lots on fuel ?
Also if they were any good, does any know where to get them from ?
Hi, there was a post about these not long ago; the general opinion was that there's very little if any advantage now as caravans are more aerodynamic now (sloping fronts etc.) and what little benefit they gave when towing, was cancelled out by people leaving them on the car even when they weren't towing, thus just increasing the wind resistance of the car......
As to whether they're still available, sorry - don't know!

Thats the thing see, our caravan is an old style 1980 Abbey and I just wondered if we could gain an advantage by using one, there's also the fact that the van is 836kg unladen being towed by an old volvo so we need to save every penny we can on te old petrol
Found a bit more:
"Tests carried out on wind deflectors show they decrease fuel consumption by as much as 10 per cent under certain conditions with caravans that are not aerodynamically shaped.
.............
The effectiveness of a wind deflector depends on the angle at which it is mounted and the speed of the towing combination and generally has little effect unless the combination is travelling at speeds of at least 70 to 80 km/h.

Tried to find places that might sell them, but network seems to bit limping a bit up here - can find here alright, but most others are 'Page not found' - must be the unseasonable weather....
Can you get hold of a roof-rack bar and then make your own? People have done that before!

Sort of thing that would happen to me, as well!
But a piece of hardboard/plywood with two or three U-bolts well tightened up - as long as you have the front edge pointing down, wind pressure should keep it on, rather than try to pull it off (unless you try reversing at about 60 mph...... )
