Yes I know its a vague question, but approximate answers will do. Using a double burner stover for breakfasts and evening meal every day, roughly how many days will a standard size campingaz cylinder last? (You know, the one thats about 18 inches tall with the little handle, not sure of the number sorry)

We are going to France for 2 weeks in the summer and one week before that in the UK, and trying to work out whether we need a spare.

Hi Amanda .... sounds like the 907 ........ and it is very much of 'how long is a piece of string' .........

For 2 weeks I would take a spare ........ we brought a Combi that came with a used bottle, which felt near to empty ....... so we have been carrying new bottle for 3 trips now = 10 nights camping, and it's still not run out ........ I think it is a magic one - tops up, when we are sleeping 

We take a 907 and the smaller 904 as backup to France each year. We run a Cadac and a 2 burner stove but we eat out probably every 3rd night and we dont do cooked breakfasts. The 907 is still not empty and will be going away on its 3rd trip to France this year but we do expect it to run out on us this trip. The 904 has only been used 3 or 4 times when we were using both the Cadac and stove and is still pretty full so it will probably last out this trip as a backup. The Campingaz is only for France as you can replace it in the supermarkets. For our weekends and half terms away in this country we have the bigger Calor bottle.

His?! I'm most definately a "her"  Have checked the cylinder and it's a 907. But then us women aren't good at measuring inches anyway.....isn't this:

CampingGaz is very easy to get in France...most Supermarches will sell it, and definately the Hpermarches. NOT at the garage part though...the blue cylinders there are for household burners. Go inside and look for the leisure/camping section.

But I personally always carry a spare. You`d be cutting it extremely fine expecting it to last three weeks with that amount of cooking and the %^&*$ things always run out halfway through cooking a meal in my experience. If you don`t want to buy a second cylinder just for one trip, ask around and see if you can borrow one, or try the tip.

Yes, I think we will try and get another, I know we won't use a whole cylinder during the first week away, which will mean us going to France with a half empty one only. We have a tip near here so I'll go take a wander tomorrow.

I just went to the tip to try and get a 2nd one and despite a huge cage full of them they are not not allowed to sell them anymore (even waved a couple of fivers under his nose).

Actually, it depends on whether the guy asked has had a good day, likes you and whether the planets are in the correct formation in the sky....no, strictly speaking they`re not supposed to give or sell you them, but a lot will. I`ve asked three times for shyer friends, and twice I`ve been given cylinders for nothing. So it`s always worth a try. (And your best smile.)
