hi all -

whats the best way to prevent / reduce midge bites

do you use a cream to rub into arms etc or a lamp / oil burner?

or there are those things that plug into the mains - like they use in take aways

This has been covered loads on here; if you do a search you will bring up lots of info.

Anyway, we use Avon Skin So Soft, which is a dry oil body spray. It has been much recommended on this site, so worth giving a try.

have read the other posts and read about the avon product, and the stuff you can get from boots.

are midges more prevelant inland? we were considering a trip to garlieston in scotland, its a costal site.

Your going to SCOTLAND = Midge Hell. Take EVERYTHING, cream, sprays, lamps, the lot YOU WILL NEED THEM. If it's humid and near trees they will be there, the only thing that really gets rid is a slight breeze, if you have electric hook up take a couple of desk fans.

I'm taking the Scouts away this weekend and we are well stocked up with sprays etc. We also have Hurricane lamps which we fill with Citronella Oil which helps a bit.

You forgot to include the flam thrower and electric fence

I have camped around that area for years and there are not a lot of midges about if you go to the east coast of Scotland there is none (hooray)ps nothing works for midges except smoke

I live on the east coast of Scotland...no miggies here! They are a problem some months of the year over west though, June and July being the worst months.

If you`re the sort of person miggies like the taste of, life will be pretty unpleasant for you unless you take a few precautions as outlined above. But just as many people are unattractive to miggies, so you might be lucky.

we both got bitten a few times last weekend, after reading that reveiw i have placed an order, hopefully next time out no more bites  will let you know how we get on, if anyone is interested?
