We have a couple of wind up LED torches and they are great. You always have a torch that works. I also use LED lights for XC cycling at night and they are great. Mine is brighter than a 10watt halogen unit that I used to use. LED units are really coming on now. Watch out for some of the LED cyle lights though, some are to be seen with and to are to see where you are going.

I bought an LED torch from eBay, but was disappointed with the build quality, then was wandering around Tesco and found two really nice ones a standard 3 LED one for about £3ish and a 'Tesco Finest' LUXEON one for £20, could not decide which one to get so bought both , the cheap one is ideal for trips to the loo, expensive one ideal for blinding passing aircraft, signaling other planets, etc
I'm looking to get a new torch for camping. It's main use is for crossing the site to loos etc when dark, coming back to tent in dark etc. I've been scouting around on ebay (I never knew there were so many out there!). We've previously had torches with fairly standard bulbs which never last very long. How good are the newer LED ones? Ebay has loads, but like always I am cautious.
Anyone got any good suggestions on torches? Good / bad experiences of LEDs?
We've got them Deb, they're very good too. We keep one in the cupboard by the fusebox in the house. One in each car, the caravan & one in my workbag. We bought them from Makro for, I think, £4.99 plus vat. They have a radio & phone charger built in. The thing I like bout them is that when you want a torch, as long as you know where it is, these wind ups are going to work.
The batteries seem to last forever, the light it throws out as a torch is clear and bright and it turns into a wee lantern light too which is fine for me in my smal tent.
