Hi all, i've just ordered a Cadac carri chef gas barbie cos i've heard pretty good things about them, but the thought has just occured to me....... if there is no lava rocks with it how easy is it to actually BBQ on them and does it taste as good? i used to have a wee cheapie gas BBQ from Halfords with the lava rocks but found it just too wee for what i needed.

we have one great for cooking.  We do a full breakfast on ours.

its a flame underneath, very easy to clean

I wouldn't say it was a barbeque really.  More of a gas griddle.  You won't get that smoky barbeque flavour/smell.

We've got the original Cadac and find it cumbersome to transport, the flame goes out frequently (needs protecting from winds) and the non-stick surface flakes off and scratches more easily than other non-stick surfaces.

We have turned out some lovely food on it over the past 3 years or so, but I wouldn't buy another.  Next time we will buy a more standard type of small portable gas barbeque (with lava rocks).

I cannot say how good or bad a Cadac would be to cook with but as pointed out it is not a BBQ in the normal sense. It is more of a griddle or skillet. We have a Webber Baby Q which is brilliant it does not use lava rocks but does have an open flame beneath the gill plate. It smokes the food really well can be controlled easily and is sheltered from wind as well. We bought ours last year and have both disposable bottle conection and larger Patio gas adapter. We also have a small BP gas light bottle so it can be taken anywhere with the choice of a 400g or 5Kg gas supply. We have used it loads during the past few weeks and we will never go back to charcoal after using this !! Brilliant !!  

I know the Cadac is versatile but for a BBQ the Baby Q is possibly the best portable BBQ out at the moment. 

Cadac's are excellent. We have the eazi-chef and wouldn't be without it.

We have the Carri Chef with just the reversable grill and the new paella dish and it takes care of most of our cooking needs but its not a BBQ. You dont get that smoky bbq flavour, even with the bbq attachment. Its a great way to cook outdoors though and you can go way beyond the usual bbq meals.

Here, here....not all they are cracked up to be, especially for the money. Mines definitely NOT easy to clean, it's a pain in the backside to be honest.

Anyone want to buy a much under used Cadac Carri Chef Deluxe??

I've got to say I totally agree.We got the eazi chef this time last year and we've taken it on every trip we've done, and we've done a good few! We wouldn't go without it, it packs up into bags, I am not very strong but I don't have trouble carrying it and putting it together.  It's one of the best pieces of kit we've bought. I think it's easy enough to wash, just a bowl/sink full of hot soapy water does the trick. We bbq on it, cook on the griddle, we use the skottle for paella, chilli, spag bol, curries etc. Can you tell I luv my cadac?!

its a fantastic bit of kit we cooked everything on it, i think its easy to transport as everthing fits into the bag, it cleans easy. we use it home & away and its the one bit of equipment i'm pleased we got for camping, no waiting for coals to burn , just 2 mins and your cooking !

magic guys, cheers, i was also looking at some BBQ recipe ideas and came across something called liquid smoke ! anyone ever heard of it or used it?
