I personally wouldn't touch a hook up from ebay. If you are in a tent the kind you want is this one EHU

Totally agree with anorak, this is an area were one should not skimp and get a cheap one, please pay the extra and get one that is designed for the job. You will so feel so much safer.

It does seem a lot of money to have to pay out, I was in a similar situation only a few weeks ago but brought a proper one, wish I had seen anoraks link back then I paid over £70, but no regrets.

Don't touch it!

Its got no RCD protection and would be lethal! It's just a cable with the 3 pin socket replaced with a camping connection.

Thermal cutout is heat based not electrical fault or earth drainage based.

Please be safe and alive, not cheap and dead.

In the short term you could as previously said use the in car charger whilst driving, and for lighting you could buy a 12v fluorescent with croc clips and connect to car battery during evening, this time of year you will only need it on for a couple of hours and then recharge battery when driving the following day, alternatively buy a battery operated table lamp, lidls were doing them a week or so ago.

Been down that road but got this http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.towsure.com/product.asp?p=533 off the towsure website, works brilliantly, now all I need to sort out is how to get a converter (?) for my 12v coolbox (cigarette lighter connection) so I can plug it into 240v in the tent.

I think you need something like this, converts 240v AC to 12v DC but you will need to compare it against the rating of the coolbox.

Lidls were doing these a few weeks back for £8.99, might be worth a look if you can get to one.

I don't think the Camping and Carvanning Club would be happy to see their name being used in connection with this sh1t on e-bay

I'll e-mail them to see if they want to take it up with e-bay. I wish there was some way of getting this stuff banned before sonone pays the ultimate price
