We are camping this weekend (yeh) and have the luxury of electric hook-up. We have a kettle that goes on the gas and also a small electric kettle BUT the electric kettle is one of those that you have to unplug at the mains to turn it off! I don't think this is the best design in the world to be honest.... Anyway my question is, does anyone know of a cheap travel kettle that actually has an on/off switch? Or shall I just take the one that goes on the gas ring?  Thanks in advance

Personally I'd stick with the one heated via the gas ring.

I have a low-wattage kettle (cordless, automatic swtich-off one) I got from a caravan accessory shop for when we are on mains - it was far more expensive than a 'normal' kettle (it was £25 for a 1 litre capacity kettle), but it is far less likely to trip out the EHU!  It does take longer to boil though.  If you don't use mains very often, stick to the gas kettle - it's quicker!

Like Scampi, I have also just bought a small electric kettle (but from ebay for less than a tenner), it may take longer to boil, but at least I am not using gas whilst on an EHU that I have already paid for (but maybe thats just me being tight !)

Dave.

Pounstretcher do a nice cordless 2kW kettle for £6. (Most 'normal' kettles are in the 2.4 to 3 kW range - too much for EHU). Provided you're careful about unplugging anything else that is heavy on power you should be fine. We have used it on several trips without any problems tripping the electrics.

Being cordless and with an onn/off switch it is very convenient to use, it boils more than a teaspoon of water at a time (OK exaggeration!) and boils very quickly.
