Found a Yahoo review of dog guards which included a net one, and it did very badly. The Saunders T4 which I started the thread with, did best for stability and build, so thats what I shall get.

cheapest guard I can find (better than eBay): T4
I'd never really thought about it, but if you fancy changing your car to get a purpose built in one, go for a nissan primara estate.
It's got fixing loops top and bottom both behind the rear seats and behind the front seats and a net with webbing straps that you use to attach it to the loops (which fold away when not in use)
I hadn't considered how lucky I was to have it all build in for me.
We use a cargo net from Halfords, but our car (PT Cruiser) has fixing points around the luggage area, I don't know how common that is? It fastens on with big hooks though, so its fairly versatile.
We bought a dog guard from halfords. We have a high car, Renault Kangoo. You can get extentions for it and it will fit any car. Would recommend to tie it to the head rests.
Oooh I love my car so much!!!! it has cargo nets built into the back seats on an inertia reel, and yes I do stack right up to the roof, using the lightest item last principle.

Hi Mark, Snap! We have a Kangoo and I bought the Halfords dog guard plus extension for it - but I thought it was far too wobbly to inspire much confidence so took it back and got a refund. MT

Have you checked out the RAC dog guard in argos I got one and found them very stable they come with several fixtures to suit many cars? And are under £20
We just tie it to the head rests. Keeps it fairly secure. Keeps the luggage under control. Use bungees to tie the luggage to the guard so it doesn't all fall out when we open the boot.
