I've inherited an ancient Tilly Talisman gas cooker.  The date on the gas pipe is 1978 - do these pipes perish and should I get new ones?  If new ones what do I need to ask for and where do you recommend I get them from?

From memory I think all flexible gas pipes have a lifespan of 5 years

gaspipe has a ten year life it also has the date of manufacture on it so easy to remember when to change it.

some manufacturers have a shorter life  span it will tell you on the packing what the life span is

hi ellies mum, we also inhertied a tilley talisman. our hose is dated 1976. my grandad had it from new. it had been in his loft for at least 15 years before he gave it to us. i posted the same question as we were concerned about using it. most people said to change it but if yours is the same as ours then you cannot change the hose.

i contacted tilley (just use a search site for tilley talisman) a very helpful man rang me back to say that so long as the hose was not crazed it would be fine to use. He also told me the date they brought in the model where you could change the hose. i think it was 1980. They were built to last(his words) A couple of other people have these on this forum and have had no problems that i know of.

We used our talisman for the first time in May and it worked perfectly. Hubby checked for leaks with some sort of soapy liquid! Some one else may be able to explain that one.

If in doubt take it to your local camping retailer for advice.

sorry forgot to say, they do not use regulators as they work at 'bottle pressure'. On the end of your hose you should have a tap, this screws onto the camping gaz bottle. if this is missing you will have trouble replacing it as they are like gold dust.
