Sounds like they were using an alternative method of 12 volt connection. I fitted a similar plug on my 12 volt coolbox to swap it between the car and a mains power supply.

Can't see any reason why you shouldn't change it back to a standard lighter plug.

hi i also have a electolux 3  way fridge box , sounds like the same plug i have on mine , a word of warning if you put a cigarette lighter plug on check the max load on the new plug , as my fridge on 12volts uses 8amps 75 watts capacity , all the plugs i could find were rated at 6amps continous use, went to maplins and a ever so helpfull lad looked them up for me on there computor and their was non on there system that had the rating i wanted, so i got a 12v to 240v invertor rated at a continous 10 amp and 150 v , my fridge has a label on the back giving all the loads, yours may be different but worth checking before putting a cigarette plug on ,

Good point john&lynn - good quality cigarette lighter plugs are hard to come by.

This one claims a 15A rating, although I have no personal experience of it.

Given that hardly anyone actually uses the cigarette lighter for it's original purpose, isn't it about time that car manufacturers started fitting more sensible 12 volt outlets?
