Well after all the glowing reports I've read and wanting to be able to BBQ while camping I bought one. Tried it out today and just did some burgers in buns and was pleasantly surprised how easy it was.
Now being a real non cook type person I had high hopes of the cookbook that came with the Cobb but, well it's kinda pants, loads of fluffy food but no real cooking instruction.
SO, is there anything out there to tell you the basics with a good supply of NORMAL recipes for camping.

Also I noticed on cleaning the grill plate thats uit's far from non stick and also it seems like some of the coating has come away as I now have patches that are not speckled. Is this normal?

I agree the cookbook is rubbish isn't it? I think there are quite a few recipes to be found on the internet. Don't think there is another specific Cobb recipe book. I bought a Cobb Premier a few weeks ago and haven't had any trouble with my grill plate sticking. I spray it first with oil. If you have cleaned the grill according to instructions (no scourer) I would phone up your supplier.

That is not normal for the grill plate. I have had my Cobb for 18 months and it is still non-stick and the coating has never flaked. I have never sprayed it with oil before use either, so it sounds like yours might be faulty.

I think if you do a search on the Equipment forum you will find some Cobb recipe threads.

The grill plate thing - deffinitely not right.

Yes the recipe book is pants but it does give you some timings for cooking - ie if you want to cook pork chops, ignor the recipe but look at the time it takes to cook.  Same with the roast chicken, you don't have to put the marinade on it but the timing is accurate.

My family thinks the roast chicken on the Cobb is really tasty: you can jazz it up with herbs etc but it is good just rubbed with olive oil and given a good sprinkling of salt and peper, roast under a preheated dome for 1.5 hours (8-10 heatbeads).  Whilst it is roasting I cook potatoes in the moat in half a cup of water, a glug of olive oil and some salt and peper, I sprinkle some dried mixed herbs over these if I have any to hand.  The potatoes take at least one hour to cook.

We eat a lot of chicken in this house, and on the Cobb the best chicken portion I have found to be thighs, I marinate these in a bbq sauce (either home made or from the supermarket) and cook under a preheated dome for 45 mins.

If you have a wok pan for your Cobb (which I don't yet) it seems the options are endless! Stir-frys, curry, and even stew and dumplings!

I bought it directly from Cobb, I'll give them a buzz tomorow and see if I can return the grill plate for another.

I'll have a hunt around for more recipes, it's really the timings I'm interested in, just the basics like you've posted mel. BTW, how do you lift the chicken/grill/plate off to put the potato's in?

Once I get the plate sorted out I'll experiment some more, I do love chicken and I'd like to try some fillet steak as well.

I pick up the chicken with a little two pronged handle I was supplied with, you stick the prongs in the holes on the grill and it's well balanced.

With the steak, I have found it doesn't brown so don't be tempted to over cook it, same cooking times as you would under the grill: bout 6mins rare, 8 medium and 12 well done.

Steak is not a good thing to do in my experiance on a cobb, You need a really fierce heat to do well and the cobb is not like that... If you were to try you would need to cover the grill plate with the lid for a good while to get the plate really hot... then it might work.
