First of all a stabiliser is a must! Personally I have had both types and really couldn't tell the differerence. At present I have the blade type as you say a lot cheaper. One thing is for sure without one your risking it a bit!

I don't use a stabiliser, never have. I prefer to feel if there is a problem before it gets out of control.

The Ulysses is pretty steady, well balanced. If I see a National Coach coming to overtake I slow down so it's slipstream has less effect. Same with white vans or anything else bigger than a family car.

I'd like to see the use of a stabilisers & Tyron bands made mandatory by the insurance companies. It just might save a few claims & bring all our premiums down a bit. I've driven for many years & I drive close on 70,000 miles a year in my lorry as well as a few miles pulling my caravan. Some of the demonstrations of caravan drivers I see makes me wonder what planet some folk are on.

I saw a van on its side on the M4 a couple of years ago being pulled by a big 4x4. The 4x4 stayed on its wheels but the van laying on its side had pulled the rear ones up off the ground. We all see the over confident or perhaps inconsiderate drivers amongst us flying down the road with their caravans & risking their safety by not having all the safety devices they can fitted to the outfit. Nothing short of madness.

For the sake of a few quid Sounds Digital I'd strongly advise a stabiliser, I've only ever had the blade type so I don't know about the alko type ones but I do know that as long as you do all you can to stabilise your outfit you can do no more. it'll be too late to wish you had one when they're winching your outfit out of the ditch.
