I've been looking at picnic tables (the folding sort). I tried the Royal one at Go Outdoors, but felt it to be a little unstable underneath me - I'm slightly overweight.

Does anyone have any recommendations for such tables that are well built and don't feel like collapsing when I sit at one? I just like to sit at the same table as the rest of the family when eating my dinner etc.

I purchased one of the £18 folidng ones from tesco.  Was initailly just goign to be for mthe kids (due to my 18stone frame).  But afetr setting it up and seeing how much better made they are than they used to be I think Ill be sharing the table with them

Where / what is 'The Range', Skatty? Have done a google search but found zilch! Seen them at Don Valley for around £79 so would be good to find a decent one at £49!

The quality of these tables varies greatly.  We have a plastic one and it is now some 6-8 years old.  Never had a problem with it.  The trick is to make sure it goes down right and all legs are taking an even load, eg not twisted when you put the feet on the floor. Some of the plastic ones are made of a softer more flexible plastic and these tend not to be as good.

The other trick to ensure a long and collapse-free life is to take a small bag of nuts and bolts and be meticulous about tightening or replacing any that have become loose or got lost. Opening and shutting the table several times can loosen the nuts and bolts that hold it together. When a joint becomes weak the whole structure looses its strength.

My other half is a bit overweight, we've got the plastic fold up set but he sits at the end on a standard camp chair. That way we're still at the same table :)

Just (one hour ago) bought a sturdy little number from Focus (ex Great Mills) for £8.99. I can't find a picture link yet but it is the old fashioned type, plastic top with the legs that fold under/into the base.

I already have the roll up aluminium type which is a little unsteady if I'm honest. This one is sturdy and easy to 'sit up to' for four people. It was such a great price I just had to have it!

We had 2 of the plastic 4 seater tables break on us last season......  been eating too many pies. So this year we got an Alloy one from Towsure at the start of the Season. Its great......but ......can be a bit cold on the bahookie first thing in the morning tho.

Also if you go round and tighten all the screws (and there's plenty of them) before you use it ....... they tend to hold up better  [:o)]
