Hi was thinking of getting one of these for the van and I was wondering if I get one will it make tuning the telly in any easiesr when we do take the telly its a 20 min job to tune it in and then work out what order the channels are in

So if I buy one of these things will it just tune its self in and set the programs in order its self? ( nafter setting it up )

If this is correct will it work in Cornwall Newquey area?

We tried Freeviw in the Van and found it difficult to pick up a decent signal although we were using the right type of directional aerial etc. Even when we had a good terrestrial signal (including Channel 5) at times Freeview was pretty poor.

We've gone over to Sky Free to View and I can get a satellite signal in UK as quickly or more quickly than it takes me to set up my normal terrestrial TV.

We got all we needed fairly cheaply from Ebay, and I was honestly surprised at how easy it is to set up.

http://www.satelliteforcaravans.co.uk/    is a really good link for general information.

We tried a freeview box with a Status aerial, but found that the Status aerials are pretty useless - rarely getting a good signal for the terrestrial TV and worse still on freeview.  Even when we could get a signal, the picture kept 'pixelating' - very annoying!!  We then bought a directional aerial, but still found setting it up successfully fraught with nuisance that we didn't really want to be bothered with when were on holiday and the Freeview box was still hit and miss.

We have since invested £60 in a portable satellite system.  It's rather entry-level compared to some you see, but its very compact in a little carrying case and we are now enjoying great TV quality and plenty of channel choice and our channels are 'remembered' by the box each time we switch on.

We haven't even had to bother buying a cumbersome tripod - our portable dish just has a clamp and we've taken to clamping it to a spare plastic caravan step (which we carry anyway) and then pegging that into the ground to steady it.  Its very unobtrusive and simple to set up.  The satellite box is only the size of a novel too, and easily fits on a little shelf above our TV.  We did consider putting it on the roof through the Heki rooflight - with its suction fitting (provided), but haven't had any success with this method and it is more prone to being blown about and losing the signal.

The only limitation is that we need to avoid pitching near trees and obstacles that get in the line of sight of the dish/satellite.

We were down at Boscrege (5 miles from Helston) couple of weeks ago; freeview reception was perfect - the transmitter is Redruth, and channel numbers are the same as Winter Hill (Lancashire/Cheshire area) - just let it auto-tune, and you're set up!
