Don't give up just yet - a car battery and a leisure battery are two entirely different beasts. The car battery is designed for short duration, high load (such as starting a car ) while the leisure battery is the opposite - long duration, low load - for things such as lighting, 12v tv etc. If you have already got the leisure battery it would certainly be worth having a go and seeing how long it would run the coolbox for. I have (accidentally) left my coolbox connected to the car for 7-8hrs in the past and it's started fine. I'd guess that a leisure battery would run it for a few days.
One word of warning - don't buy a lead that includes a voltage protection cut-out device (used to prevent items flattening a car battery), as this needs the voltage from a running engine/alternator to keep it going. Even my fully-charged leisure battery didn't have the necessary 'oomph' to overcome the cutout device.
Post any results you get from the leisure battery, i'm sure there'd be some interested readers.
