Hi We have just bought a mini dvd player for the car to keep the kids happy on the long journeys and the only power connection is a 12v dc connection to plug into the car socket. If we wanted to run it away from the car is there another waqy of doing it.
1) Is there some sort of converter that can plug from the hook up to the dc in 12v jack
2) If not can it be connected to a seperate battery (12v)
How about a 12volt power pack? Although I've not used one of these for running the DVD - they do come with one or more "cigarette lighter" sockets. We use them for things like blowing up the airbeds and inflatables such as the paddling pool. As most DVDs aren't that long I should imagine that you would get long enough out of one of these,
Alright, it's for running telescopes from, but what you get is a 12v 7 amp hour supply which can also dish out 9v and 3v (for radios and stuff). I really like the look of this and I'm pretty tempted...

There is something called a mains rectifier that allows you to run 12v appliances off the mains. I know Towsure sell them, and you can get them in camping shops etc.

Purchase a 230 to 12v transformer, you can purchase from most camp shops for £20 or if you have a socket in the dvd buy a transformer with multi plugs from most independant electrical stores.Maplins is a good start, this presuming you are using EHU on the site,if not use a lesure battery.
Every so often lidl do a power pack which is about 20 amp hours. They will jump start a car etc but are also ace for small 12 volt appliances. Charge before you leave home and you've got a good few hours of "peace".
