Hello I have a new portable dvd player+ screen. The dvd player has an AV in jack. Also supplied is an audio video cable (single connector on one end and yellow+red+white connector on the other). According to the instructions I can connect a game system/video equipment to the dvd player. I was wondering if I was able to connect a freeview box to the dvd player turning it into a televison. If so what king of lead would I need as my freeview box uses a scart lead.
Thanks for that.....oops I just realised the flaw in my plan the dvd player hasnt got an aerial socket so i guess i can not connect my freeview box this way
sorry I meant you put a scart adaptor in the back of your freeview plug the wires in the back of your adaptor and the av into your dvd you can get the adapters at most shops that do elecrtical connections. maplins, richer sounds etc
Are you sure it's not an A/V out on the dvd? It is unusual to have an A/V in on a dvd as there is no real use for it (I assume it's a dvd player not a recorder.) You can get a scart splitter then use an adapter for the phono plugs to scart if you want to avoid swapping plugs in the tv.
Yes it has both an AV in and a AV out socket. I have obtained a scart to phono adapter. The dvd player came with a audio/video cable that plugs into the AV in jack and on the other end has a yellow/white/red female connectors. So I have figured that I need a cable that has a red/white/yellow male connectors at both ends. Then I can plug one end into the supplied audio/video cable (goes into the dvd player) and the other end into the scart/phono adapter (plugs into the freeview scart connector). Then hopefully I can watch television through this set up once I buy a digital ariel. Does this sound right?
Spot on Chris. If you don't already have this lead then any electrical retailer would stock it as it's a common lead used for plugging Camcorders straight into the telly (for instance).

Many portable dvds have AV in. in fact it is often used for in/out with a switch to select. I guess its to use the screen for playing console games/camcorder monitor etc.
