I am interested in these sleeping bags, how warm are they? Would he be better in one of thoese than his 2.2 tog growbag I wonder? Does not seem to be tog rating on sleeping bag and I'd want to be sure he could not slip down into it if you know what I mean

Not sure on the tog rating but they are very warm, much warmer than a growbag. I got great advise from Val on here to tie something around the bottom of the bag just below his feet to stop him from slipping down and it worked. He was so warm he slept like a log even tho we had terrible weather and the wind was so loud!

Just a tip - if you don't have a proper camping sleeping bag then make sure you take an extra jumper and blanket or two to go over the grobag if needed. We took our 2yr old in June - first family camping trip. I know the weather is generally warmer in August but you don't want to be caught out. Her arms did get very cold so we put her to bed with a jacket on under her growbag as well as blankets. I took cheap fleece throws from Primark £3 each to use as blankets or rugs on the floor if not needed.

when we started camping our little one was 8 months old and we had a hartford xl. We took a travel cot which we found great as once they start crawling you'll spend at least an hour or 2 getting them to stay in one place long enough to fall asleep! We took it outside for her to play in to without us having to worry about her crawling to the nearest passing car. Vango baby nitestar was excellent but with the weather we're having this year will be way too hot but you can open it out.

she's two and a half now and still cannot get her to keep still for long so often get her to sleep in the buggy then put her to bed.

Hello,

thanks for all the advice tips, there is alot to think about, We have decided on getting a baby vango sleeping bag & we have 2 x double air beds i will be sleeping with either daughter (6 months) or son (4 years) & partner will be sleeping with one of them.

Daughter is sort of on the move already, she is up on all fours & is moving backwards & slowly forwards, but i am sure she will be fine, we will sit with her on the airbed till she sleeps anyway, she normally falls alseep easily with her last feed at night.

We also have a bumbo chair they are fantastic i really recommend you get one it helps your baby sit up & my daughter loves sitting in her seat & watching what everone is doing or playing with her toys.

As for the food front, daughter has weetabix or redy brek or something like that for breakfast anyway, i will probably get some organixs pots or something as this will be easier for camping because normally i home make all her food but it will be abit hard to keep it froozen so wont be able to do this, i am sure it wont hurt for 1 week though.

With the bottles i think i will either use the sterilised ones that are throw away ones or just wash them under a drinking water tape or even put them in a bowl with boiled water from the kettle, to be honest after 6 months it is not a must to sterilise the bottles but people just think you muct till they are 1 year.

I will let you alll know how we get on with our trip

My son always slept on a self inflating mat when he was a baby but I saw this a while ago and thought it was rather funky - you would probaly get a reasonable price for it on ebay when you had finished with it too.

I suspect my link wont work but it was on the vertbaduet website & I just typed travel into the search box!!

we go camping with our 18 month old son and have tried all sorts of ways to get him to sleep, the best way (for him not sure about me!!) is for him to sleep with me in a double airbed and husband sleeps on a single.

We just have the problem of him waking up at 6am and being really noisy, which I am really conscious about, how does everyone else get round this problem??

We took our daughter when she was 8 months old - we used a travel cot and a baby sleep bag that fastens over the shoulders - she wore a baby gro and a knitted cardigan to keep her arms warm etc.  Did not worry about blankets coming off or that she would roll of the airbed or that our body heat would make her too warm. Saying that it was summer so adjust accordingly there !!

Then when she was older we bought a 8.00 metal frame argos camp bed for her and a vango nitestar baby sleeping bag - a few pillows on the floor around the bed - just incase - but i can say she has never woke up and never rolled off - she is 3 1/2 years old now and still uses the same camp bed - good investment - she is now in a vango nitestar midi and again she is always warm and snug.  Only ever put the hood part on her head if its really cold.

Hope this helps.

Hi, we just got back from camping with our 8 month old.  He slept with me on self inflating mats covered in a duvet, under an opened out sleeping bag.  If it was cold, I put him in a sleepsuit with either an all in one fleecy thing or just a fleece top with hood plus his normal baby sleeping bag.  I did think about a Vango baby sleeping bag but I thought that he'd grow out of it pretty quickly.  He spent the whole week playing with wellington boots and tent zips and is now a menace around the house after experiencing such freedom.

We used  this and then once baby outgrew, went to self inflating mates. The pop up cot was a godsend though - baby loved having her own space with all her toys in.
